Post a Comment. This year, over gardens across the tri-state region were entered in the competition. Geographically, entries came from as far as Washington, Pa.

The entries include colorful flower gardens, bountiful vegetable and community gardens, combination gardens, school gardens, container gardens, garden blocks, urban farms, and, public spaces including parks and community centers. More than 63 panels of judges visited gardens throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware to view the beautiful, well-designed spaces filled with a variety of. Gardens were judged on maintenance and horticultural practices, as well as the variety, color, and suitability of plantings.

Behind the elusive brick wall is a beautiful display of greenery and calming spaces to have those quiet moments we so desperately need sometimes! So our city greening programs are really about working with people in neighborhoods with neighborhood activists looking to make a difference. The DCH offers adult, youth, and employment training. For the big kid that wants to earn their green thumb, the DCH relies heavily on its volunteers for their greening projects around the city. You can find more info about these events and others here. What we do is pair street tree planting with priorities of the city. So for example, we planted trees through the program all over the city.

The Master Gardeners of Burlington County is an organization of trained volunteers who assist the county Cooperative Extension by sharing horticultural information to homeowners and the general public. Master Gardeners volunteer in the Extension office answering gardening related questions from County residents. Anyone with an interest in gardening, even without previous education in horticulture, but with a commitment to volunteer service can become a Master Gardener.

Kristina Aguilar is a native of northern New Jersey and first learned about plant record keeping while interning at the New York Botanical Garden during her college winter breaks. After graduating from Cornell University, she continued gaining experience in plant collection management at the University of Delaware Botanic Gardens and Mt. Cuba Center. In , Kristina joined the staff at Longwood Gardens, where she continues the legacy of plant record keeping while using technology to better share plant collection information with staff, students, and guests.
